Genealogy Websites

June 2004:  This webpage is about 2 years old, and there is SO much that needs to be added.  Now that I seem to have largely "caught up" with all this work, I promise now to get back here and do some good things for you!

There are sooooo many websites out there, some of them great, some good, some good but greedy, and so many just a big waste of time!

I'm sure I'll miss some, but these are all sites that have been extremely useful both in gathering data used on this website, and that would also be helpful to anyone doing their own family tree.

Family Search - Right today, there is one website that's at the top of everyone's list.  Nowhere else will one find the wealth of information you'll find here.  These are the LDS folks in Salt Lake City, Utah.  I'm not Mormon, but I can't say enough good about the quality and extent of genealogical information one can find there.  Free for almost everything, which includes a PAF, a simple but fairly downloadable genealogy program.
FEETHS - Federation of East European Family History Societies - This is not only a dandy gen-site, but has the best collection of European maps (current and ancient both)  you'll find anywhere. F E E F H S
Good German GenSite - German is almost a necessity here (wish I could!), although it gets possible in translations via Google or Alta Vista.  There's much information about towns, even tiny towns, within Germany. Genealogy.net
RootsWeb is a dandy research website; big, and growing rapidly, probably because it IS good!   WorldConnect, their recent major addition, will probably become the world's largest gen-data-store.
Ancestry is where I cut my teeth - that was my first GEDCOM upload years ago.  Sadly, today just about anything available there requires a subscription and $$$$$!

You can download their free Ancestry Family Tree program free from here, not recommended by me, tho!

Brand NEW - and didn't we KNOW it would show up!
Ancestry's New DNA tests help you discover new ancestors and verify your genealogy like never before. Ancestry.com now offers the highest resolution DNA tests in the industry.
This isn't about Genealogy, but if you found this ZellTree website in a web-search, perhaps it's because of  an AddMe submission.

There are many more good links, and I will get them on ZellTree one day, just no more time right now!
